Megan Herndon has practiced in a broad range of immigration law over more than two decades. Prior to joining Murray Osorio, Megan was the Assistant Chief Immigration Judge (ACIJ) in Richmond, Virginia from March 2021 to February 2025. She also served as the Acting ACIJ in Fort Worth, Texas; New York City 26 Federal Plaza; and Sterling, Virginia. During her tenure as ACIJ, she supervised 97 Immigration Judges and hundreds of court staff while training new Immigration Judges and hearing her own docket of cases.
From 2015 to 2021, Megan served in various roles as a managing attorney in the Department of State Visa Office, including as Deputy Director of Legal Affairs. She supervised the provision of legal advice to all U.S. consular officers worldwide, including through oversight of Volume 9 of the Foreign Affairs Manual, LegalNet, and advisory opinions. In 2017, she also adjudicated nonimmigrant visas in Lagos, Nigeria. From 2002 until 2015, she performed a variety of roles at the former Immigration and Naturalization Service and the Department of Homeland Security, including as a trial and appellate immigration attorney, entering through the Attorney General’s Honors Program. Megan argued before the Board of Immigration Appeals in Matter of E-A-, 26 I&N Dec. 1 (BIA 2012) (interpreting the serious nonpolitical crime bars to asylum and withholding of removal).
Megan’s passion for immigration law burgeoned while studying Diplomacy and World Affairs at Occidental College. She participated in a prestigious residency program at the United Nations in New York, where she interned for the High Commissioner for Refugees.
Megan was an Adjunct Professor of immigration law and torts at Northern Virginia Community College’s Paralegal Studies program from 2011 through 2020.
Outside of work, Megan enjoys spending time with her husband and boys, cooking, traveling, growing oysters, and creating art.
